Sometimes, it’s nice to escape the concrete jungle and head to the great outdoors. If you’re going to be hosting a party, a corporate function, or even a wedding, consider one of these garden-themed venues for the perfect outdoors party. All needs and sizes are covered:
1. SINGAPORE ZOO’S PAVILION BY THE LAKE
For most of us, unless you have kids of your own, it has probably been a long time since you have been to the zoo so you might not even be aware that they have their own event space. The Pavilion By The Lake at the Singapore Zoological Gardens overlooks Seletar Reservoir, with both a breezy open space where you can take in the tranquility of the rainforest, as well as a sheltered, non-airconditioned area where you can do the same. With a capacity of 500 guests and able to cater a covered banquet to 240, it is a great location for any large-scale outdoor event.
2. FABER PEAK
Formerly known as The Jewel Box, Faber Peak is a unique hilltop event venue is Singapore that has made a name for themselves by specialising in weddings and they do them right. There aren’t many places in town that offer the same views as Mount Faber does and it even has three different venues for the perfect wedding reception, but the most beautiful area of Faber Peak is their tranquil garden with ancient Angsana trees providing plenty of shade. If this sounds like where you want to exchange vows, take a look at some of the wedding packages they have a available.
3. THE RABBIT HOLE
If you’ve got something smaller in mind, try The Rabbit Hole, the adjoining outdoor garden area of The White Rabbit. It’s a great spot for afterwork drinks and small gatherings, as well as weddings and after-parties. The Rabbit Hole takes so much pride in their selection of gin that they even have their own house-made tonic, but don’t worry, that’s not all you’re limited to — There is also a large range of wines and spirits, some great beers, and also a selection of cigars that range from old favourites to rarities flown in from Cuba.
4. OPEN FARM COMMUNITY
It doesn’t get much more ‘garden’ than Open Farm Community. Located right near the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Open Farm Community wants to bring farming to the city by uniting local farmers with some creative chefs to create a seasonal menu on this 35,000 square foot patch of land. Not only is their garden edible, Open Farm Community also host recreational activities as well, from farming workshops for families to lawn bowls for those that want to try something a little different. What’s even better is that they are more than happy to host private or corporate events and you can even include those activities too.
5. ORCHIDS BY SHANGRI-LA
This is a bit of a surprising one because most people tend to think of a 5-star hotel when they think of the Shangri-La, not outdoor events, but that’s exactly what you get with Orchids. The Orchid Pavilion is an open-air wooden dome with vines and orchids woven through, located in an enormous garden featuring a koi pond by a waterfall, ginger plots, tropical fruit trees, and a 35-year-old African Tulip tree as well as an old Abiu tree planted by John Denver, the now-deceased singer. The prices are what you’d expect from the Shangri-La and with a capacity of four people, it’s probably best to save this one for a truly special occasion.
Since 2001, Gardenasia has marketed itself as a nature-based events company and they cover all needs. They are most famous for their farmstay packages where you stay out in the country, wake up to peace and quiet and take a stroll through the gardens, but there is more to Gardenasia than just that. The venue is also a great spot for corporate and team-building events and is also a favourite wedding location for those on the red dot that want to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city.
7. Emily Hill
Emily Hill was built inside an abandoned colonial building as an arts space with a chill-out bar, but it also has an excellent garden area available as well. You can choose for have your event in theatre-style setting that caters to up to 100 people, or in a covered area that fits more, with your choice of standing room, long, or round tables. When you choose the picturesque al-fresco area, you’re also helping to support the artists based in the building.
8. BOUFE BOUTIQUE CAFE
Another venue with a beautiful al-fresco area, Boufé Boutique Café offers exclusive use of both it indoor and outdoor areas for private functions. Just like Emily Hill, Boufé Boutique Café is housed in a colonial building, this one dating back to 1949 in Phoenix Park. If you only want the outdoor area for a function with no more than 20 people, you will receive plenty of free parking and an additional 30 minutes of free setup time on top of the duration you’ve hired the venue for. Other add-ons are available too.
Flutes is part of the National Museum of Singapore and according to their website has been named one of the ‘Top 101 Best Restaurants in Asia.’ There are three main dining areas of Flutes, but the one you will probably be most interested in is their outdoor patch, the William Farquhar Terrace. The outdoor terrace can hold 40 people and is a great location for drinks, canapés or even dinner.
10. HOTEL FORT CANNING
Finally, the Garden Terrace at the legendary Hotel Fort Canning. The garden in front of the hotel’s facade will bring an air of sophistication to any event you host there, whether it is something personal or corporate. For weddings, you can choose from pre-designed themes that are sure to be a hit with all in attendance, but don’t worry, they won’t overshadow the bride. Each theme covers every detail, from the decor, to the cake, to the bouquet. That definitely takes a lot of the stress out of planning.
